Detour : Richard Smyth from Corner House Gunned Down

I just want to take a quick detour to pay tribute to my friend who was murdered last night.

Rich, this world will never be the same without you. It is a much darker, more forlorn and lonely place knowing we will never hear your laugh again.

It makes me so sad that you were not allowed to enjoy your success and your one true love because someone somewhere was jealous of you. I wonder did they know how hard you worked to get where you are, how you built that place up from nothing, how much you sacrificed to get where you are today? Probably not. What a sad reflection on the state of the planet. You finally had it all, you did it Rich. I can't tell you how proud I am of you and to have known you.

It has been my distinct privilage to count myself as one of your friends. We walked such a long and strange journey together, and I will never forget you.

May you see God's light on the path ahead when the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear, even in your hour of sorrow, the gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness never turn your heart to stone.
May you always remember when the shadows fall, you do not walk alone.

Sláinte!

  2. It is with great sadness that I learned about Richard's departure under such circumstances. I shall remember the growth from a little place into which he turned Corner House. May we all celebrate that that he represented and may he rest in peace.
